Pre-War Baseball Cards (1890's - 1940's)

Pre-War cards are those made before WWII, they include some of the rarest and most expensive cards in the hobby. This group includes cards that came in Tabacco packs, Candy packs(Caramel, Goudey, and Cracker Jacks), Bread, etc.
One of the most popular Pre-War Baseball card sets is the T206 White Boarder Tabacco set. They were produced from 1909 to 1911 by the American Tabacco Company, cards were included in tabacco packs to help protect the cigaretts from moving around. Known by collectors as "The Monster" because of the difficulty and expence to complete, this set can take a lifetime to put together.
There are 524 different cards in the set, but most collectors choose to only complete 520 card because of the difficulty that is envloved attaining the 4 most expensive cards, know as "the big four" : Honus Wagner, Sherry Magee (Magie Error), Eddie Plank, and Joe Doyle (N.Y. Nat'l Error).

Topps 1952 - 1975 Baseball Cards
​Topps baseball cards are some of the most widely collected cards among the hobby, and Topps is still producing cards today. Vintage card collectors enjoy the challenge of putting together a complete set. One of the most popular sets produced by Topps is the 1952 baseball card set. This was one of the first full color baseball cards Topps produced.
The 1952 set features card #311 Mickey Mantle and consists of 407 cards, including many Hall of Famers and tough commons in high grade. The set was released in six series, with the last series (high numbers) being the most difficult to find, and also the most expensive. Also know for the #1 Andy Pafko card that has a BV of $5,000+ in NM condition.
Bowman 1948-55 Baseball Cards

Bowman card company produced their popular baseball card sets between 1948-1955 before being bought by Topps in 1956 for $200,000. In 1950 Bowman sold $1,000,000 in baseball cards. Bowman cards also included chewing gum in the packs of cards it sold. The vintage Bowman cards are still popular among collectors because of the design and the many Hall of Famers inluded in the sets.
The 1955 "Color TV" cards are one of their more interesting designs, often a challenge to find in high grades because of centering and edge chipping. The 1953 Bowman color set features beautiful color pictures of baseball players, a first in desing for the time.
Although many collectors will call the 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantles rookie card, this is not true. The real Mickey Mantle rookie card was made by Bowman in 1951. This card comands a high price in almost any grade.
